Frequently asked questions
Where is my information stored?
On your device. MemoWho has no account, no sign-in, and no server — your entries are never uploaded to the developer, who has no way to see them. They only leave your phone if you choose to back them up or export them, and then they go to a folder you pick. Uninstalling the app removes them from the device.
Can other people see the people I have saved?
No. There is no shared directory and no cross-user index of any kind. Nothing you record is searchable by anyone but you, on your own device.
Do I have to share my location?
No. Every location feature is optional. While you are using the app, location can suggest where you are when you add an entry. MemoWho only uses your location in the background if you turn on nearby alerts, which are off by default — see below. You can withdraw location access at any time in your device settings.
How do nearby alerts work?
If you turn them on in Settings, MemoWho notifies you when you are within 100 metres of a place where you met someone, even when the app is closed. The places to watch are registered with your phone's operating system, and the notification is created on your phone — your location is not sent anywhere for this feature. You can turn nearby alerts off at any time.
Will my entries move to a new phone?
Not on their own, because there is no account to sign in to. Use a backup or export to move them: save a backup to a folder you can reach from the new phone — such as iCloud Drive or Google Drive — then import it there. Backups can be encrypted with a passphrase; keep it safe, because an encrypted backup cannot be recovered without it. Your phone's own backup system may also carry app data across, depending on your settings.
How do I delete my data?
Delete individual entries in the app, or uninstall MemoWho to remove all of them at once. Backup and export files are yours, so delete them from wherever you saved them. Since nothing is held on a server, there is nothing for the developer to delete on your behalf.
Which devices are supported?
MemoWho is available for iPhone on the App Store and for Android on Google Play. It is built for phones; there is no tablet layout at present.
